Sarah's Fit Blog

Hate is a four-letter-word.

Day 11 – A picture of something you hate.

The only true thing I hate, is hate itself. But I have skipped the last two, so you deserve to know what really chaps my hide….gimmicks! When I see a commercial that claims weightloss with out a clean diet, or a fitness gadget that makes ordinary exercises easier, or magazine cover text that reads “lose 10 pounds without even trying”, it makes me want to scream!!!  Trust me, those people don’t care at all about you and your goals, they just want your money! They know that everyone wants to be fit and healthy, but not all of us are willing to work at it, and will pay mega bucks for any shortcut offered. The truth hurts, but it is what it is. Stop throwing your money out the window!

Day 09 – A picture of the person who has gotten you through the most.

I am taking this one as a gimme and going to pass on it. It’s not fair to anyone in my life, as each and every one has gotten me through so many things. I could go on and on about my mom, dad, son, husband, brother, friends, family, teachers and authors. This is a fitness blog and although I love the people in my life SO much, the real person who has gotten me through the most (fitness related) is myself. There, I said it. I don’t want to sound conceited, but it’s true. When you are all alone running up the hill, or crying out in pain through your last rep, or throwing up right outside the gym door, only you can talk yourself into pushing through it and finishing.

And while I am at it, I am skipping day 11 too. Because I can. Neener neener.

Day 08- A picture that makes you laugh

I mean, really??

What’s in my treasure chest?

Posted in Live by Sarah on March 22, 2011

Oh there I go again, slacking on the blog! I apologize, however I have to admit, it takes a lot of time to post worthwhile entries! But here is one that you may or may not have discovered: T to the R to th X! TRX actually stands for total resistance exercise, but it is so much more than that. It incorporates balance, core stability, suspension, trust and every ounce of strength you have. Try it once, you WILL be a believer. With that said…drumroll please….here is my Day 7 photo entry:

Day 07 – A picture of your most treasured item:

Just One Day

Day 06 – A picture of a person you’d love to trade places with for a day.

This one is tough. Not to be self-centered or conceited, but I love my life and had a hard time deciding who I’d like to trade places with. There’s nothing wrong with that is there? Don’t get me wrong, the list that came to my head first was that of celebrities, athletes and models. But I know that their schedules are hectic and that they have a lot of stress to deal with. On a whim, if I had to trade places with someone for one day and one day only, it would have to be: Michelle Obama, she’s got the style, the money and the  power. Go Michelle!

Day 05 – A picture of your favorite memory.

Wow, I have a lot of favorite memories! My childhood, my parents magical ways of making me feel so loved, all of my friends, former jobs, meeting my husband, our wedding, having our son and watching him grow up. I could go on and on, but since this is my fitness blog, I will reminisce about my favorite fitness memories. I played softball and basketball growing up, and even dabbled in track while I was in elementary school, but all of that went out the window when all my friends wanted to party and hang out. It wasn’t until I started following the moves in a book my mom had called “Definition”

It only required 15 minutes a day…sold! It was then that I realized my incredible blessing that is genetics! It didn’t take long for me to start seeing my deltoids and glutes start to show their shape…I liked it! That was just a once in a while thing though. In 2000, a relative introduced me to Body-for-Life (which she won 2nd place in a the BFL Challenge!)
I planned out my 12 week journey into a real fitness program and the rest is history. I am still a true believer in this book and always refer back to it when I need a reality check. It proves that when you combine strength training with resistance training, add 6 small meals a day and recite positive affirmations 6 out of 7 days a week (totally do-able!) you light a fire within yourself that not only transforms your body, but gives you this incredible sensation that you can complete anything! And I have done just that! Well, I still have a lot of items I’d like to scratch off the bucket list, but I am putting in the work required to do so. I also know that life isn’t about the journey, but the destination. So there it is, my favorite memory about my fitness journey…the beginning!

Weight Loss Wars, Take it to the Tube

Day 03 – A picture of the cast from your favorite show.

It seems to me that the latest trend of reality weight loss programs that have popped up within the last five years have really nailed it. They are talking directly to the people who need motivation the most….couch potatoes! I am guilty; I watch more tv than I should, but I really appreciate the efforts these producers are putting into emphasizing the magic that happens when you combine clean eating with a consistent exercise regimen. Let’s see, we have the most popular, Biggest Loser, then Weighing In, Dance Your Ass Off, Heavy….but my new favorite is MTV’s I Used to be Fat. One episode in particular featured Jordan and his trainer Joey. Besides that fact that Joey is incredibly HOT (see above picture….hello gorgeous!) he is one of the best trainers I have ever witnessed in action. He was knowledgable, strong, inspirational, but overall he truly cared for Jordan and was there for him through his entire transformation. It just goes to show that  a little support goes a long way. Much respect!

And just so that everyone knows where I stand, I would pick Bob over Jillian any day!!

I love my mom!

Day 02 – A picture of you and the person you have been close with for the longest.

This one is a given. Of course my mom is who I have been close with the longest…she created me! I guess it’s a toss-up between her and my dad…I love them both equally SO much…but since my mom had to carry me for 9 months before we met, I’ll write about her. (Still love you TONS dad!) Here we are at Race for the Cure last year (May 2010). She is my best friend! Coincidentally, she and my dad are coming home from Mexico today. I have missed them both so much. My mom has taught me so many things. How to get through hard times, how to stay strong and focused. She taught me that I am responsible for my own actions and that independence is one of a woman’s strongest assets. She doesn’t take any crap and is admired by many people for it, she has helped so many people in fighting for what is fair and telling it like it is. One week is about all I can handle without her and I am really looking forward to seeing her today 🙂 Love you mom!
